Krishna Jayanthi, Gokulashtami or Janmashtami

For some it was on Saturday and for some it was on Sunday, the Krishna Jayanthi aka Gokulashtami aka Krishna Janmashtami, the birthday of Lord Krishna, the avatar of Lord Vishnu.

It falls on the 8th day (Ashtami) of the Second(dark) fortnight of the Month Shravana on the Hindu Lunar Calendar.

The Ladies draw some lovely patters of kid feets with rice flour pastes in the floor of their homes to mark the arrival of the little krishna.

Check for more reading here, here & here.

P.s.: Seen here are the krishna dolls which were sold at street corners in Chennai last saturday.
