Yesterday was ThiruKaarthigai and most of the households will light up “Agal Vilakku” (அகல் விளக்கு) throughout their homes. So obviously the sales for such small diya’s (aka Vilakku) are brisk around this time in the city.

One such small platform shop near Marundheeswarar Temple, Thiruvanmiyur.

  1. is this the vessel for the candle? how cute. do you keep this vessel later on?

Ram: Yes, either some oil or ghee is poured (not candle) inside this diya (lamp) and lit using a wick placed inside the oil.
